Prof.Dr. Necdet ÜNÜVAR

He was born on June 6th, 1960 in Adana, Ceyhan.

He completed primary school in Adana, secondary school and high school in Mersin, and university in Erzurum Atatürk University.

After his compulsory service in Mardin as a Medical Doctor, he first completed his Internal Medicine residency, then Endocrinology and Metabolism specialization in Ankara Training and Research Hospital. He became Associate Professor in 1996 and Professor in 2001 at Atatürk University. He served as the Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine. Between 12.12.2002-08.05.2007, he served as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health.

He was elected as Adana deputy in the 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th terms.

He served in 6 Research Commissions: 3 of them served as the President (Drug and Substance Addiction, Informatics and Internet, Violence in Health), 1 Vice President of the Commission (Missing Children), 2 Commission Members.

He was a member of the Plan and Budget Committee in the 23rd and 24th terms.

In the 24th term, he was elected as the President of the Health, Family, Labor and Social Affairs Committee on 31.01.2013. In the 26th term, he was once again elected as the Chairman of the same Commission.

At the same time in 7 years, Turkey-Azerbaijan Friendship Group assumed the Presidency. Due to his work, the “State Friendship Medal”, which is the biggest medal of Azerbaijan, was given by the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on June 04, 2020.

He worked very intensively in the fields of Health, Informatics, relations with the Turkic World and especially Azerbaijan and the fight against drugs. He was a member of the Board of Fight Against Drugs and the High Council of Fight Against Drugs.

He was appointed as a member of the Presidency Health and Food Policies Board on October 9th, 2018 by Presidential Decree.

He speaks English. He is married and has 3 children.

He was appointed as the Rector of our University by Presidential Decree No. 31213 dated 14.08.2020.
