Prof.Dr. Erkan İBİŞ
I was born in Trabzon, in northern Turkey on March 30, 1958. I completed my primary, secondary and high school education in Trabzon and graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (in Ankara) in 1982. I served my compulsory military service as a doctor in Burhaniye district of Balıkesir in 1982-1984. I began to work in Ankara University as a research assistant in 1985, where I later became a specialist in 1989, associate professor in 1991 and full professor in 1997. In 1998-1999, during the restructuring process, I served as the Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. I was the Chair of the Department of Nuclear Medicine in 2003-2005 and 2010-2012. I have numerous publications in national and international scientific journals and congress books.
I was appointed as the Deputy Director of Cebeci Hospital of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994 and served as General Director and Head Physician of the same hospital in 1996-2000. I was Vice Rector of Ankara University in 2000-2005. I headed the Revolving Fund Executive Board and served in numerous boards and commissions of Ankara University as chairperson and member. Also during my term as Vice Rector, I was responsible for the Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs, Department of (administrative) Personnel, Department of Health, Culture and Sports, Department of Construction Works, Revolving Fund Directorate (excluding Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry), Turkish and Foreign Languages Center (TÖMER), Social Facilities and the Primary School.
Between 2003 and 2007, I served as a member of the Commission of the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority, the highest executive level organ of the institution. I am also a member of the Advisory Board of this Institution since 2007. I have been on the Executive Board of the Federation for University Sports since 1999.
I was elected and appointed as the Rector of Ankara University and took office in August 2012.
I am married and have two children.
